Lincoln 1865 L. Kurz Lithograph Residence And Horse Abraham President Antique:
A scarce original lithograph by Louis Kurz titled "Mr. Lincoln, Residence and Horse," subtitled "In Springfield, Illinois, as they appeared on his return at the close of the Campaign with Senator Douglas." It is signed lower left "Lith. L. Kurz Chicago." Just below the image is "Entered according to Act of Congress, in the year 1865, by Alfred Storey & Co., in the Clerks Office of the Distr. Court of the U.S. for the South. Distr. of Ill."
Rarely seen even in its uncolored state, this one features beautiful period hand-coloring.
The print has lost some of its margin on three sides, but the image area is not affected. There is a loss at the lower left corner and a few nicks around the periphery. It measures approximately 17 1/8" H x 20 3/4" W.
It has general toning as shown. It appears that the print was laid down on another thin sheet of paper before it was trimmed. See the closeup of the sky area above the roof.
In any case, with some attention from a good conservator, this will be a splendid print and a fine addition to any collection of Lincolniana or historical Americana.
I can't find another example for sale on the internet, so this may be your best chance. The last sale sale of a decent, uncolored example was at Cowan's in 2004, which sold for $510.
