Backstamped: Kaunas Central July 18, 1933This cover was carried on the ill fated non-stop transatlantic flight from Floyd Bennett Field, New York, to Kaunas, Lithuania, by aviators Capts. Steponas Darius, United States Army, and Stasys Gireman. The flight, in a Bellanca Monoplane, ended in disaster, crashing in Soldin, Germany, only 650 miles from its goal. Both pilots were killed. Tied by Brooklyn c.d.s. (July 15, 1933 at 5:00AM) LITHUANICA JUL. 15, 1933 Circular cachet, and boxed "ORO PASTAS/NEW YORK-KAUNAS..." alongside. Numbered cover addressed to Lietuvos Aero Klubas (Lithuanian Air Club)
