Lot Stieff Pewter Lge 11" Bowl & Pot W Handle Saucer Williamsburg Restoration For Sale
Acquired from a lovely old upstate New York estate! Rarely do I find vintage pewter in this wonderful condition. I'm offering these Stieff pieces as one lot. It includes a very large bowl measuring a full 11" in diameter. It has a pedestal base which is included in the overall height of 5 1/4" making it suitable for a punch bowl or large salad serving bowl. It is heavy in construction and the bowl alone weighs 2 pounds, 10.5 ozs! It is signed on the bottom in script, "Williamsburg" followed by block letters underneath stating "Stieff Pewter." Beneath that is an oval logo "Williamsburg Restoration" with a center C4W mark. Underneath this is the designation CW7-3D. The bowl is quite clean with a mirror like finish. If observed in bright light one can see a few finish scratches from use, particularly on the interior. There is also a small indentation that is visible if you position the bowl in the light at the right angle. As pewter is a soft metal, the bowl is very slightly out of round. Overall this vintage bowl is in fabulous condition. Found along with this piece was a small sauce pot with wooden handle and matching saucer. The saucer is 5" in diameter. The pot is 3" in diameter at the widest point and is 2 7/8" tall. The wooden handle is 4 1/4" long. It has a different logo stating "Stieff Pewter" in block letters with a crest shape beneath with ATC within it. Below the crest is P53-5. I'm not sure what this pot was used for. I suspect something hot? due to the wooden handle- like melted butter? It would be an excellent server for salad dressing however, to go with the large bowl. The wooden handle has a flawless finish. I'm not sure of the wood but looks like a hardwood such as maple. There is some small dark spots on the saucer surface (see pics) and on the bottom of the pot as well as the interior of the pot. Again, I did not try to clean or polish any of these items and this spotting appears to be surface only. This was obviously a well loved and cared for set.
