His father was Ernest Austin (born 1899) and mother Maud Florence Gordon (born 1900). I'm not sure exactly when Robert enlisted. But I presume he did enlist when he turned 18 in October 1944. Eventually he was sent to the Commando training depot at Achnacarry in the Scottish Highlands. He passed the harsh Commando training in late 1944, early 1945. He was accepted as a member of the Old Comrades Association of the Special Service Brigade on 11th January 1945. He was given the association number 3945 (This is confirmed by the Commando Association). Robert was posted to the Holding Operational Commando. At this time his home address was in Banstead, Surrey. At some point Robert transferred to 2nd Battalion Oxf & Bucks Light Infantry. With this regiment he saw service in Palestine, and was subsequently awarded the GSM 18-62 with Palestine 1945-48. Robert Cecil Austin died May 24th 2004. PayPal preferred. Full refundguarantee, if not satisfied.
