The Personified Nation is welcoming under her protective arms and under the Banner of The United States of America a half naked young woman (personified Louisiana). In the exergue M.C.M.IV. what a beautiful allegory!

This BEAUTIFUL bronze medal was engraved by Adolph Alexander Weinman (born in Karlsruhe/Germany, 1870-1952). He was born in Germany but he went to the United States at the age of ten. Weinmann first studied at the Cooper Union School in New York, later for five years at the studio of the sculptor Martiny. He improved his artistic skills as a student of the famous Augustus Saint-Gaudens. Weinmann is very famous for designing the "Walking liberty" on the half-dollar and ten-cent coins of 1916.
The GRAND PRIZE MEDAL is referenced as belonging also to the Olympics Story (see Gadoury Nr.6/52)

Comment: This is a GREAT MEDAL !It was struck for the Louisiana Purchase Exposition 1904 . As told, this medal belongs also to the history of the Olympic Games which took place in Saint-Louis at the same time.(Please, note that Grand-Prize medal, gold, silver medals were all struck in bronze).
