Lovely Antique Flow Mulberry Ironstone Platter Challinor Pelew Staffordshire 16":
This sale is for a Lovely Antique Flow Mulberry or Flow Black Ironstone Platter made in the mid 1800s by Edward Challinor of Staffordshire England in the company’s Striking Pelew Pattern.
The pattern depicts a classic Chinoiserie scene with pagodas and a bridge and large trees and a floral border.
Some might consider this flow mulberry while others view it as flow black. Either way it is Striking and Displays Wonderfully.
The platter has 8 sides and measures 16 inches long and 12 ¼ inches wide.
It is in Very Good condition, especially for its age. The decorations are vivid and bright.
There are no chips or cracks. There is under-glaze crazing as expected from Ironstone of this era and missing glaze/roughness to areas of the edging (last 3 photos).
It has a Pelew E. Challinor backstamp.
