Lovely French Silver Fable Thimble By R Lorillon C1920 For Sale
Silver Fable Thimble
Wolf Who Became a Shepherd
example of the popular fable thimble dating from C1920 - it's not one
of the later reissues.
It has the boar's head mark for French silver after 1838 and the
maker's mark of Renè Lorillon. This maker
died during the First World War but his widow continued the business
using the same mark.
The border depicts the tale of the Wolf Who Became a Shepherd and is in
excellent condition with no
damage or repairs. It's a small thimble, about 14mm at the inside rim.
This design is often incorrectly
attributed to Pierre Lenain. (Apologies for the remnants of silver
cleaner in the waffled knurling!)
