Lovely Vintage Ivory Coloured Pure Silk Piano Shawl Densely Embroidered Flowers For Sale
This is a sweet vintage ivory coloured pure silk piano shawl. It is beautifully & densely embroidered with flowers all of shades. has a long (25 inches) silk fringe including 5 inches of knotting. It most likely dates from the 50's or 60's. This is really bohemian chic!In the book Unpacking Culture, author and assistant curator at the V&A Verity Wilson says of antique piano shawls that "they represent all that is fiery, risqué, seductive and sensuous. Anything apart from the ordinary." She also claims that these shawls are imbued with "a mix of gypsy abandon and a promise of the east"The embroidered piece measures 50 inches x 50 inches It has no tears or holes but this shawl has a bit of a history. If you look closely you will see that the shawl has faded coffee stains over a good part of it's surface, apparently the man that spilt the coffee on the ladies shawl received a good slap in the face! Mucha raza la Andaluza! Olé Since the photo I have rinsed it in cold water several times and the stains are more faded but still visible.So, though I believe this shawl could be a lovely bohemian deco detail, I don't think it should even be worn.
