Interesting find! This compact and stylish little vintagebrass box with handle and working closure was once used to hold cigarette ashesif a proper lady (or gentleman) couldn’t find an ashtray. And we’re guessing thatthis one, with its gambling theme, may have once gotten a good deal of use innightclubs and casinos.

This nostalgic box, which fits perfectly in the hand at ½”deep and 1 ½” wide not counting the handle, could still hold ashes. But today’sbuyer will more likely show off its graphic style on a dresser, desk orentryway console, holding important minutia of everyday life (for example, minitech cards or tiny makeup accessories or jewelry.) Or theyuse it tocarry small items on the road.

Condition: As shown in the enlarged photos, the ace designon the front of the box shows clear wear/patina, and there’s also some slight wearon the back. The box has no rust, the closure functions very smoothly and theinterior is clean. And the pattern of wear on the front does not seem toreflect any neglect, but rather a good deal of use by the original owner, andan interesting history.
