Pre Civil War
The area known as the Nine Mile Point, of the Mississippi River,is the site of the Fortier Plantation, or Magnolia Lane.The Magnolia Lane Plantation grounds is the location of the area's first school churches and later site of the WWI commissary. The Fortier Magnolia Lane Plantationwas once the home of Francois Quinet Sr. Statesman and developer of the early City of New Orleans. Near by the main plantation home was the site of historic Fort Banks which blockadedthe Mississippi River during the Civil War.
TheMagnolia LanePlantation, a National Historic Landmark,has its stories of mysterious events which formed the uniquehistory of this prestiges plantation. TheMagnilia Lanehistory, as did other Louisiana plantations, experienced the Civil War, floods, hurricanes and deadly epidemics.
