THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST MASON PAINTED EYE BLUEBILLS I HAVE SEEN IN MY THIRTY YEARS OF COLLECTING! THIS IS TRULY AN EXCEPTIONAL DECOY. YOU ARE NOT LIKELY TO COME ACROSS A MASON DECOY IN THIS SUBURB CONDITION UNLESS YOU ATTEND ONE OF THE MAJOR NATIONAL DECOY sales.Mason produced decoys in five grades. From best to worst they were: Premier grade, Challenge Grade, Detroit Grade (glass eye), painted eye and tack eye. Serious collectors try to get the same species in all five grades. An ink stamp was put on the bottom of some Premiers and Challenge decoys but never on the other three grades. Unfortunately, once the decoys were put into the water, the ink stamp quickly wore off.Masons in the top grades are famous for the swirl painting of the breast feathers. They have a distinctive head and body shape that you would quickly come to recognize if you had a chance to handle a few of them.lp. You can be absolutely certain about the Mason decoys I sell.
