Max & Norbert Neiger Art Deco 'chinese' Brooch: Vintage Czech Glass For Sale
Vintage Deco 'Chinese' Style Czech Glass Brooch by Neiger Bros.
A Czechoslovakian Art Decobrooch in brass and glass, which I believe to be by the brothers Max and Norbert Neiger of Gablonz. As far as I'm aware, the Neigers produced only costume jewellery, and as both were killed in the Holocaust, their full potential as jewellers was never realised. They never signed their pieces - however, the mottled-glass Chinese motifs and stylised, colourful clouds are quite characteristic of their work.
This brooch has some damage, not immediately apparent: the C-shaped glass inserts on each side are unfortunately cracked, and the left one is missing a sliver of glass (please see photos 7 and 8). The central panel with moulded Chinese writing is intact. The painted clouds have a few fleabite chips, commensurate with age.
This unusual and collectablebrooch measures 5.6cm by 3cm, and weighs 13.1g.
