While recuperating from an illness, Maxfield Parrish spent several months in Arizona in 1902, where he painted a series of desert scenes for Century Magazine.  In an open letter to the magazine he commented on the inspiration which led to the creation of these colorful works:

\"Many people are greatly surprised when told that there is not as much color in the Southwest as there is here- say in New England. But it is true, nevertheless. That is to say, the celebrated color of Arizona and New Mexico is local color. The light coming through the fine, dry air rarely gives the gilding and richness we have so often here in New England. There is evidently not enough moisture in the air to color the light as it passes through. But the Southwest has local color, and lots of it.\"

C O N D I T I O N :

The print is in excellent condition with great color, no foxing, or other damage to be noted aside from some age wear that is only noticeable upon close inspection at a certain angle under direct light. This is mentioned only for accuracy and does not detract from this beautiful work of art. It has been framed using all new museum quality materials. The vintage frame, which compliments the print nicely, is also in great shape with nice patina and still retains it\'s original glass.

D I M E N S I O N S :

The visible size of the print including border & type is 5 5/8\" by 7 7/8 \" , and the overall size with frame is  6 5/8\" by 8 7/8\".
