Michael & Melvin Crocker Lula, Georgia Pottery Double Face Jug 1992 For Sale
The brothers Michael and Melvin Crocker are well-known Georgia potters who opened their own pottery in 1984 after earlier working at the Wilson Pottery. Their younger brother Dwayne Crocker is also an accomplished potter. Michael did the potting and glazing while Melvin generally applied the faces, scenery, or snakes to their folk art pieces.
Offered at sale today is a two-handled double face jug depicting an indigenous North American couple. On one side of the jug the male has a stern look, long, flowing hair, and a headband, while on the opposite side of the jug the female (perhaps Pocahontas?) is presented with a more serene expression. Both faces exhibit the wonderful craftsmanship these brothers are known for. The Crockers signed the jug on the base with the incised signature: Michael A. Crocker & Melvin S. Crocker 1992. The jug stands 7 3/8 inches tall and is in superb original condition with no cracks, chips, or hairline fractures. Offered with and an extremely low opening offer.
There will be a $10 charge for fully insured delivery by USPS or UPS, and the jug will be carefully bubble-wrapped and double-boxed to ensure safe arrival. I will contact the winning buyer by e-mail shortly following the conclusion of the sale. Good luck!
