Mid19th Century Linen, Wool & Silk Sampler By Alison Bathgate Watson 1856 For SaleMid 19th century linen, wool and silk work sampler by Alison Bathgate Watson July 1856. This sampler is completely charming. Most of it is worked in wool but the family initials and Alison's details are done in silk. The top section of the linen is stitched with examples of alphabet letters, numbers and border patterns. Beneath these is a row of crowns with the family initials interspersed among them. Below the crowns is a plaque with Alison's details inside. Below this are floral and heart motifs with further family initials amongst them. The bottom section of the linen has a central floral urn motif with trees, dogs, rabbits and more family initials on each side. The whole thing is surrounded by a wave border. The linen has slight overall discolouration consistent with its age, slightly darker top right corner. The colours of the threads are good. The sampler is stitched onto a backing cloth and at some point has been tacked onto a stretcher. The tack marks are visible around the edges of the linen. Measures 10 1/4 " x 17 1/4 "
