This is a RARE carving of a monkey god. The style of nose/eyes, format, zig pattern and more indicate a provenance of the African country area of West Cameroon by the Bamileke people and transported to the southEastern USA sometime in the late 18th/early 19th century.
This and other West Cameroon carvings were uncovered in a former North Carolina 18th century slave tobacco plantation barn with connections to Charleston, South Carolina.
