LOCATION FOUND: DESEMBOQUE, MEXICO - GOOGLE EARTH: 30 34\' 08\"N/113 00\' 33\"WPLEASE READ DESCRIPTION.This shell was found live in the Sea of Cortez near the city of Desemboque Mexico, about 70 miles south along the east coast of the Sea of Cortez, from Puerto Penasco dredged by shimp boats trawled in nets from approximately 40 meters depth. This specimen is for more serious collectors it was taken live and operculum is included.
They come very encrusted when taken from the ocean. These murex always come very encrusted see the last photo as example.
I added a light coating of mineral oil to this specimen as I wanted to see if any of the banding could be brought out. You can wash this in warm soapy water to remove the mineral oil if you do not desire it.
This brassica was cleaned on board the shrimp boat by the fishermen. I did not clean this specimen. I am grading this shell F+, as it was cleaned before presented to me.Any other imperfections are within the shell itself. In 6 years of collecting, this is one of the largest specimens I\'ve seen. I get smaller brassica about 100mm in size all the time. These are very common. See the 2nd photo for size comparison.
I have only the biggest and most complete shells, damaged due again to the trawling process. This shell was trawled in nets, not found by panga divers.
This specimen is in the larger realm in size, color and weight. As with all shells, some variations in patterning and color are unique. Some murex are lighter and darker than others.
IF ANYONE WANTS AN UNCLEANED MUREX, PLEASE CONTACT ME. YOU WILL OF COURSE BE TAKING THE CHANCE ON THE UNDERLYING QUALITY OF THE SHELL IF YOU DESIRE TO CLEAN ONE YOURSELF. I THROW OUT ABOUT 20% BECAUSE THEY JUST DO NOT CLEAN WELL.
SHIPPING - PLEASE READI live in Puerto Penasco, Mexico and have to go to the border town of Lukeville, AZ, U.S. to the Post Office and mail your shell, it is a 1 hour drive to the border. I only go once a week, on Wednesdays. Please be patient. I will confirm your shipment every Wednesday evening when I return from my border run.
