It is very very large and extremely fine quality. It is also extremely heavy. This is definetaly the heaviest tray I have sold of this size. The centre has a large scene of soldiers on horseback with swords in their hands as they engage in battle. There are buildings and a mosque to the bottom of this scene.
The scene suggest it is a battle from the crusades led by Salah Al-Din Yusuf Ibn Ayyub, or Salahuddin as he is better known (Saladin in the west),
The scene is from the the battle in which Palestine was recaptured from the Europeans.
This centrals scene has been borders with a beautiful combination of Arabic Calligraphy and Soldiers on horseback.
The calligraphy is breathtaking. I really cannot stress how beautiful it really is.
The tray dates from late 1800's from the Qajar dynasty. The Qajar Era produced some of the most fantastic decorative items.
The copper tray has been cleaned up and the tray is in excellent condition.
You will not come across another tray like this ever again. This is a one in a million piece!! Many sellers describe their item as MUSEUM QUALITY - This in my opinion is true museum quality!!
The diamter of the tray is 77.5cm = 30.5 inches
An unbelievable amount of work and effort has gone into creating this breathtaking tray, all completed by hand.
