Macabre Cdv , Skulls, Mummy Skeletons, Occult, Masonic, Skull & Bones, Sideshow? For Sale
Really bizarre scene featuring a pair of eccentric gentleman, one holding a book, sitting at a table surrounded by a skull and spinal column and some sort of mummified baby. The baby's heart area appears to be hand tinted red. Is this a weird occult rite, or some sort of secret society activity, Masonic or Skull & Bones? Or are these a pair of carnival showmen ala PT Barnum cooking up their next act? One of the men is wearing an unusual hat which seems possibly Masonic and both have fancy trousers with piping. The pants seem vaguely military, could these be Civil War Surgeons showing off their gallow's humor?Whatever is happening here, this is a really strange photo that is at least 150 years old!The CDV is in excellent condition with some age toning but no surface loss or damage. The back is unmarked but there is a photographer's stamp which says:The Lee Gallery 920 Main Street Richmond, VA A real find for collectors of antique photography and lovers of the weird and unusual. Please see my other sales for more rare and unusual photos.
