Magnificent Antique Chinese Solid Silver Repousse Box Circa Late 1800s:
Magnificent antique Chinese solid silver box. Circa late 1800s.
The silver box is made of solid silver and is not silver plated. Estimated silver content is over 80 percent.
This fantastic silver box is made in repousse style - design hammered from the inside.
On both sides of the box are motifs from a scene ofthe Chinese classical story :'The Three Kingdoms', where three men became blood brothers in a peach blossom forest. Although the pictures are the same each side is made differently and obviously by hand.
On both ends of the box are two men from the same story. Again the pictures are the same but it is made with some difference. You can see the difference from my photos.
The box opens on top like a handbag. The handle is made of solid silver.
There is a maker's mark in Chinese on the bottom. There is no silver stamp.
Silver weight: 323 grams
Measurement : Box without the handle - 14 cm x 7.5 cm x 9 cm
'Most of my collection is one of a kind. I bought the items because I liked it for myself. They were never intended to be resold. Each item has a story and when possible I hand carried in my luggage from all over the world to bring back to Australia. Some of the items have travelled a long way away and some of the items has been with me for 65 years. I am now retired and need to downsize. I will not be able to buy a similar item again and definitely not able to sell it at the same price. If you buy an item from me it most likely is the only one I have. Thanks for offerding.'Check out my other
