This is a Woodcraft model knife made for Buster Brown Shoes.
Around 1898, Webster Marble started making his first knives and axes inGladstone, Mich.These knives and axes are considered "Top Drawer Quality" bysportsmen and collectors. This is one of thoseknives.
The blade is stamped "BUSTER BROWN HEALTH SHOES"This knife has two tangstamps, "BROWN SHOE CO. ST. LOUIS, U.S.A. is on one side and "Marble's Gladstone, Mich. U.S.A. is on the other side.
The O/L is 8-1/2", the blade is 4-1/2". Shows very very slight sharping and scratch marks.Top spine isnotchedfor thumb placement.
The handle is stacked leather with black, red and brass spacers at the brass half guard and aluminum pommel.The pommel isattachedwith a 3/8" brasssplitnut.
The sheath is original and is all leather,stitchedand riveted.Thestitching, rivets and button are tight. The leather is soft andpliable. There are some small, tiny knife "nicks" on the inside of button/snap strap of the sheath. The sheath isalso embossed"BUSTER BROWN SHOES", with a fully functional snap, stamped "MARBLE GLADSTONE MICH.
