March 14, 1864 Civil War Pass -- Headquarters Department Of Washington:
$44

This is an original Civil War Pass issued March 14, 1864 by Headquarters Department of Washington. It passes one A. C. Currier over all bridges & ferries to Greene Heights, Va. and return. Reason: Business. The signature appears to be Chas M Greene (hard to decipher the handwriting...take a look at the pictures). The pass has the number 401 handwritten in upper left corner. The form is printed by PHILP & SOLOMONS, Army Stationers, Washington, D.C. It measures 7 inches by 5 inches. On the reverse is printed the Oath of Allegiance, which is signed by A. C. Currier. This original document is over 149 years old and shows normal discoloration for its age. It has been creased both horizontally and vertically. A tear has developed at the right end of the horizontal crease; and, on the back you can see what appears to be a missing part of the tear is actually folded over. There are small rectangular marks on the top of the back that are consistent with the pass having been mounted in an album at some point in the past. All of the folds and blemishes were evident when I acquired this document over 40 years ago. Overall it is in very good condition.Take a close look at all of the pictures. If you think this would be a nice addition to your collection, place a offer.I ship via USPS Priority Mail; and, I pay half the cost.
