Marguerite Kirmse Signed Gorham Bronze Scottish Terrier Scottie Dog 2 Of 2 No Rs For Sale
For sale here is the second of two (please see my other sales for the other) fabulous cast bronze Scottie dogs sculpted by Marguerite Kirmse. (1885-1954) This fresh-to-market bronze sculpture is fresh from a NYC estate. Kirmse is well-known for her etchings and sculptures of dogs, the Scottish Terrier being her favorite breed and most highly prized by collectors. She sculpted several Scotties in various positions starting in the late 1920's. This one has its head lowered and has a somewhat forlorn look. An online biography states that there were 30 of each model cast at Gorham. This bronze measures just over 3" long and 1 5/8" tall. The bottom is well-marked with the Gorham Co. (c) KIRMSE and the model code QGGF. The condition is excellent, with all of the original green-brown patina intact. The original felt pads on the bottom missing but could easily be replaced, I think. These come up for sale less and less frequently and the prices continue to escalate. It is really a charming piece. Guaranteed to be original and as described.
