Martin Luther King Autograph: 'stride Toward Freedom' Book For Sale
Autograph of Dr. Martin Luther King. This copy of his book 'Stride Towards Freedom' was signed for one of the organizer's of Dr. King's visit to Boston in 1965. We have a link to the actual rally flyer archived in a personal collection that won't allow to be in an item description. This was when the book was signed. (Please contact us for the citation). The signature has been verified by numerous rare book dealers and Skinner sale House. This is a rare and special find.First edition. Original dust jacket in fair condition. Owner's name on signature page. The hard cover is in excellent condition. The paper is in very good condition. No dog ears. There is minimal underlining on just two pages of the book. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s Stride Toward Freedom, subtitled “The Montgomery Story,” presents a full account of Rosa Parks and the Montgomery bus strike that led to the first successful large-scale application of non-violent resistance to segregation in the United States. Illustrated with eight pages of black-and-white photographs. The book also contains powerful and iconic images from the early Civil Rights Movement including the photograph of Rosa Parks being fingerprinted at the Police Station following her arrest.
A member of the family was very active in the Boston civil right's movement. This was when the book was signed . The majority of the names listed on the above referenced program for the rally link are of other members of the Boston area clergy who very active in Social Justice and Non Violence throughout the decade. For this visit one of the rally organizers could not help host the event he helped organized as he had to travel down south for court appearance for civil disobedience. The book's owner then helped lead Dr. King on his tour through Roxbury on the way to the Boston Common where this rally was held.You will find a wide range of prices for this and similar items on the Web.
