Martin Luther King, Jr. Autographed Poster For Baptist Church Member For Sale
Martin
Luther King, Jr., born January 15, 1929, is regarded as the greatest Civil
Rights Leaders in modern history. A Baptist minister, King led the Montgomery
Bus Boycott in 1955 and helped establish the Southern Christian Leadership
Conference in 1957, becoming its first president. King also helped organize the famous 1963 March
on Washington where he delivered his “I Have a Dream” speech. There he
established the reputation as one of the greatest orators in history. One of
his best remembered quotes of his career is, “The arc of the moral universe is
long but it bends toward justice.” On Oct. 14th, 1964, King received
the Nobel Peace Prize for combating racial inequality through non-violence. He was assassinated in Memphis, Tennessee, on
April 4th, 1968.

Third
Baptist Church in Springfield, MA, sponsored an event with King on June 5th,
1959, when he was only 30 years old. Offered is an 8 ½” x 11” poster, created
on white paper by the church to advertise the event, and autographed Martin L.
King, Jr. for a church member. The
signature is bold and in blue ink. The poster has several folds, apparently
made by the church member. As with every autograph we sell, this one is
guaranteed authentic forever to the original buyer. The poster and other items came from the
estate of Helen Leonard Ireland (July 7, 1917 – April 26, 2012), known to her
family and friends as Ms. Helen, who had been a member of Third Baptist for 70
years. Her obituary is included in this grouping as well as a color poster of
King’s image, which also came from Ms. Helen’s estate. Awesome history and great for framing.
