Tony Weare (January 1, 1912– December 2, 1994) was a British comicsartist best known for drawing Matt Marriott, a daily Westernstrip written by Jim Edgar, which ran in The EveningNews from 1955 to 1977.

Tony Weare was born at Wincanton, Somerset,and studied drawing at the BournemouthSchool of Art but became a trooper in a cavalry regiment where he developed alove of horses. As well as Matt Marriott, he also worked at MickeyMouse Weekly, where he worked on \"Billy Brave\", \"Pride ofthe Circus\", \"Savage Splendour\", and \"Robin Alone\". Heillustrated \"The Colditz Story\" for Junior Express and wasvoted Serious Strip Cartoonist of the Year, 1961. In the 1980s he drew\"Rookwood\" for Look and Learn magazine and a few sequences in Alan Mooreand David Lloyd\'s V for Vendetta, at the invitation of Lloyd, an admirer of his work.

Thisstrip is part of the villainous Hubrickstoryline. It features MattMarriott and his sidekick Jason \"Powder\" Horn in a humorous discussion.Beautifully detailed pen and ink work by Tony Weare. The artworkhas been pasted onto a larger board, which was common with the strips in thissequence. White tape has been placed over the title and creator type at the topof the strip. One word has been adjusted in the first word balloon. There isminor retouching with whiteout throughout the art. There is also minor foxing onthe art (see scans). Otherwise, both the art and the board are in very goodcondition.
