The Thimble Holder: Antique Victorian Mauchline Tartan Ware sycamore barrel thimble holder decorated with the MacLean tartan The MacLean clan name is printed in gold on black on the top section of the holder. In excellent undamaged condition. White spots in the photos are camera flash. Height approx. 4.4 cm; diameter and widest point 2.8 cm.
The Thimble: Victorian silver thimble with engraved wriggle work band and vacant cartouche above an applied scalloped gallery rim on a reeded background, ca. 1870. Like most silver thimbles before the 1880s this thimble is not hallmarked but tests as sterling. In very good condition mostly in round and free of holes, dents, damage and repairs. Height approx. 2.2 cm; internal base diameter approx. 1.4 cm; weight 3.8 grams.
