Founded by Ernest Francillon and Auguste Agassiz in the year 1832, the Longines Watch Co. of Switzerland was established in the Long Meadows (translated: Longines) near the town of St. Imier. Winner of countless horology awards, its wristwatches are among the best in the world, on par with the major players of the Swiss watch making profession, including its chief rival Omega.

I am pleased to offer for sale the following vintage Longines timepiece, a men’s 10kt Yellow Gold Filled automatic wind model that dates to circa 1960 and in excellent original condition.  The first thing I should mention about this watch is its “Quadrant” dial, a two-tone silver example that changes look as it moves around in the light – stunning in person.

Triple-signed, it measures 41mm lug tip to lug tip and 34.1mm in width (35.1mm with partially recessed crown). This works out to be 1-5/8 inches long by 1-3/8 inches wide. It is powered by its original 19AS caliber, 17 jewel rotor automatic, self-winding mechanism that’s been  fully serviced by my trusted watchmaker David to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.

The 100% original silver, enamel finished dial is in excellent order, untouched since it left the factory. It features a 60 second outer track border, applied gold “angled” Arabic numerals, original diamond shape gold metal hands and ‘sweep’ original center seconds hand. Signed LONGINES below the 12 with applied gold emblem and Automatic above the 6. It is further signed “SWISS” at the base of the dial.

The domed acrylic crystal in excellent condition with no flaws. The one-piece case is 10 Karat Yellow Gold Filled and in excellent shape, a hard case to photograph without reflections and glare. The domed gold finished winding crown is unmarked so possibly a later replacement. It is in excellent shape operating smoothly, including winding the watch (as this is a duo-wind model).

Turning the watch over I find that the back lid is in excellent order with no wear or engravings, stamped “10K G.F.” at the edge. It is secured by a stainless steel, screw down ring.

Inside is its original and fully serviced mechanism, signed Longines Automatic – Longines Watch Co., Swiss – Seventeen 17 Jewels, 19AS with serial number #11,462,905. This number corresponds with a ca 1960 production date. The inside case is stamped LONGINES WITTNAUER WATCH CO. INC., NEW YORK – GENEVA – MONTREAL, 10K. GOLD FILLED [MODEL] W107-G29S with case number as well. The case maker was the Anchor Watch Case Co., a firm you rarely see (and never seen by me with a Longines), so this is of interest.

This fine watch has been cleaned, oiled and regulated to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. You can hear the rotor slightly when it swings back and forth, but all is good with the watch.  Being a vintage automatic you always want to manually wind the watch ten or so turns before strapping on and letting your arm movement take over.

It comes fitted with a new 18mm black smooth calf leather strap from Fluco, Germany with gold finished buckle. A beautiful, original, mid-century Longines watch that’s ready to wear and enjoy.

  • Watch sizes: I provide exact case measurements in millimeters (the watch industry standard) and inches, and include a U.S. quarter in one photo as a size reference. Draw the measurements on a piece of paper to help visualize the watch on your wrist. Remember, men’s vintage watches are noticeably smaller than oversized timepieces you see today. Prefer a brown strap instead of black? For most men’s watches I can switch the color before mailing; just let me know.
  • U.S. winners pay $7.75 for fully insured, safely boxed USPS shipping with door-to-door tracking. Washington State residents (and those with shipping addresses in Washington State) are required to pay 8.7% sales tax.
