Merrimac Iron Relic 1862 Dated Former Civil War Token Made From Armor Plating:
$726

Former Civil War Patriotic token Fuld 498/499 Iron R8. Was later delisted as a Civil War token because the Armor plate of the Merrimac was not available until after the Civil War in 1867. Still avidly collected as the relic of the Ironclad War Ship Merrimac. The First Ironclad 1862 (around view of Merrimac) // Made From / The / Armor Plate / Of / The Merrimac. Struck in Iron and often seen holed and rusted with reverse weakness. The present example while not holed does have scattered rust pits and very weak reverse and we would grade FINE/AG. Presentable (but likely with minor problems) VF's seem to bring in the $2,500 range, this piece will likely bring considerably less. Buyer pays $6.00 postage. South Carolina residents add 6% sales tax.
