One play is titled \"MescalineHat Dance \" (5 pages) and is a satire on Dr. Timothy Leary and Dr.Richard Alpert from the Center for Research in Personality at HarvardUniversity eating sacred magical champignons and peyote, LSD and , under theeffects , starting IFIF ( International Federation for Internal Freedom) ,followed by a bit of IFIF\'s troubled history in Mexico , also mentioned is\"William Burroughs came for brunch and was served a naked lunch\" ,\"Allen Ginsberg filled his needs by munching morning glory seeds\", done in the style of a satirical revue. A little known Timothy Leary item.
Master of the topical revueand the forerunner of TV\'s\" Saturday Night Live\". Julius Monk foundedthe first repertory group in Provincetown summerstock and then went on to found the Downstairs Room in New York, followed by Upstairs at the Downstairs and the Plaza 9 Clubat New York\'sPlaza Hotel.

Julius Withers Monk was bornin Rowan County, North Carolina, and was educated at the Peabody Institute in Baltimore and theCincinnati Conservatory. In New York, in 1935, he opened the #1 Fifth AvenueBar and later went to France, where he was associated with The Dingo,Bricktop\'s and Le Boeuf sur le Toit in Paris, 37\' in St. Tropez, and ChezVictor in Cannes. London, Rome,Budapest, and Salzburg are additional European credits. Heserved fourteen seasons as director of New York\'s Le Ruban Bleu, launching Imogene Coca,Jonathan Winters, plus many others, and also formed the Provincetown SummerStock Company, the first cabaret repertory group. He founded the DownstairsRoom in New Yorkand, eight seasons ago, the Upstairs at the Downstairs, introducing DodyGood-man in Four Below. The following revues—Son of Four Below, Take Five,Demi-Dozen, Pieces of Eight, Dressed to the Nines, Ten-ish Anyone?, 7 Come 11,Four Below Strikes Back —and the singular success of Tammy Grimes, have madeThe Upstairs at the Downstairs notable. Dime a Dozen inaugurated Mr. Monk\'s newdomain, The Plaza 9- at New York\'sPlaza Hotel, where his most recent revue, Baker\'s Dozen, is currently playing. He has made one film, onerecording, and for standing still, has been the highest-paid male model in America.

Four Below was a hugesuccess, and Monk continued to stage annual revues that established thestandard for New York cabaret over the following decade: Son of Four Below,Take Five, Demi-Dozen (1958), Pieces of Eight (1959), Dressed to the Nines(1960) and 7 Come 11 (1961). In 1962, he moved his troupe to a new nightclub,Plaza 9, at the Plaza Hotel and continued with revues such as Dime A Dozen,Bits & Pieces, Baker\'s Dozen and his last revue, Four In Hand (1968). Manyunknown performers who worked at Monk\'s cafe revues, including Ken Berry, RuthBuzzi, Mary Louise Wilson, Liz Sheridan, and Dorothy Loudon, among others, wenton to achieve varying degrees of fame.
In the 1960s, Mad published\"The Agony and the Agony\" (a parody of the film The Agony and theEcstasy) with the plotline moved from Renaissance Rome to present-day New York City. The film\'santagonist, Pope Julius II (a real historical figure), was updated by Mad asnightclub entrepreneur Julius Pope, a satire of Julius Monk.
Death == Monk died at age 82in August 1995 at his home in Manhattan.
