RARE, EARLYANTIQUE ANATOLIAN MUCUR (Mudjar) PRAYER RUG,Central Anatolia, mid-18th Century, and coming in fairly good state of preservation for its extreme age for the collector specialist. The exact size is: 3'-10" x 5'-8" (117 x 173cm). An early, museum quality antique weaving for the discerning collector with a lovely opengreen field mihraband a roundel of Ottoman tulips. This important textile artifact with its stunningly beautiful colorsis all wool in construction with a widepalette of old world natural dyes including several lovely shades of reds, blues, greens, yellows, gold's, and aubergine purples. This weaving displays nicely to the eye with a great design and splendid colors (see photo 12), but it comes ina state of distressed condition with some rips, holes, old repairs, and patches(see all close up photos). The carpetis now cursorily stitched to a cloth backing for conservation purposes. The original side cord over-castings have been removed in the past and re-wrapped with red wool with some areas that need further mending. This stunningly beautiful and very rare example of its type is clean and collection ready. This antique textile relic can be displayed as a wall hanging as it is. However, I suggest that it be further stabilized andsewn more securely toits presentneutral cloth backing for the sake of posterity. If you have any questionsconcerningthis lovely 18th century AnatolianMucur prayer rug, email Michael Phillips(READ: phillips rugs at comcast dot net)or feel free to call my studio at (303) 885-7599.
