This Is A Miniature Flour Sack From TheRussell-Miller Milling Company OfMinneapolis, Mn.

Around The Turn Of The Century Milling Companies Gave AwayThese Minature Flour Sacks To Customers. They Also Provided Small Boxes For The Sacks So They Could Be Mailed To Friends And Family.

This flour sack is from theRussell-Miller Milling Companywhose operations eventually became part of the Peavey Company in 1953. It began inValley city, North Dakota in 1879. Flour milling as an industry was beginning to establish it importance in that area, and with more extensive railroad lines in the north and west, the great spring wheat of the Red River Valley in North and South Dakota was gaining in importance. That was the purchase of a second mill at Jamestown, North Dakota. Subsequently, the partnership was incorporated as Russell & Miller Milling Company. The brand name “Occident”, meaning “out of the West” was selected because milling operations were situated in what was then the extreme western area of wheat production. In 1907 the company’s headquarters moved to Minneapolis where it built a major mill to take advantage of the tremendous stock of select wheat. This move further assured the high quality of “Occident” flour.

The sack has the Company's logo on one side along with the words "Costs A Little More Than Others - Worth It." On the other side are the intertwined intials "RMM" and the claim "Highest in Price Worth The Money" and "Minneapolis."

This flour sack measures4 7/8"longx 2 1/8" wide x 1 1/4" thick.

This 110+ year old miniature flour sack pin cushion is still colorful and in excellent condition except for some light soiling. One side is brighter than the other.

Over the years my husband managed to pull together a small collection of these flour sacks from flour mills all over the United States. We are downsizing and need to find them a new home.
