Montreal 1976 Olympics Silver Coin Set, 12 Coins, Mint For Sale
Up for sale is a set of 12 silver commemorative coins from the Montreal 1976 Olympics.
I know next to nothing of their value. I found them in an old locker at my mother's house. Each of the coins -- there are six $10 denominations and six $5 denominations -- comes in its own plastic case, which look to never have been opened. Even a non-collector can easily see that they are completely mint; untouched by human hands since the day they were put in their plastic cases.
Since I don't know if they are more valuable sold separately or as a set, I'm going with the set.
Unfortunately, they have no documention and the only "case" they have are three black plastic trays which at one time may have been in a box or something similar.
Since I have no idea what they are worth, I'm going to put them up for twice their face value, knowing that they must be at least that, and go from there.
I don't know if all these sets had the same reverse designs on them, but I can try to identify what they are just by looking at them. There are no duplicates. Here's what they look like to me (pardon the naivete):
Of the six ten-dollar denominations, they are:
One with three cyclists
One that looks like Indians playing lacrosse
One that looks like an Indian head in a field of hockey sticks (?)
One with a bearded godlike face with flowing hair
One with a Greek-looking temple
Another one with a woman's Indian head (?) with long braided hair
Of the six five-dollar denominations, they are:
One with an Indian canoeing from the back
One with a javelin thrower
One with a Victorian-looking gentleman on a rowing machine (?)
One with an Indian (?) runner
One with a Greek-looking male with awreath on his head holding a torch
One of simply the Olympic rings overlaid with a wreath
Forgive my lame descriptions.
I would gladly post each of these coins in high resolution but for now must stick with what lets me do. If you want any hi-res images of any of the coins, please email me.
Thanks for looking!
Note: I didn't know how to create a button for it for this sale, but I'd like to add a "Best Offer" option. We'll have to do it the old fashioned way -- just contact me with your offer and if it's a good one I'll end the sale and you will get the coins.
