Monumental Marcello Fantoni Exhibition Size Wall Plaque Tile Italian Mid Century:
Here's an Outstanding Large and Important Signed Marcello Fantoni Wall Plaque Purchased in New York City and Descending in the Family Since That Time. According to the heirs of the original owner, this plaque was the most expensive piece at the Gallery, and was positioned as the feature item by itself to be the first viewed piece when entering the room. Breathtaking begins to describe this work of art, as it measures approximately 24 and 1/8" tall by 12 and 1/8" wide as well as being about 11/16" thick. The Cubist Style decoration depicts a young lady holding a mirror in the boudoir. The colors are fantastic and the glaze is most interesting with definitely intentional crazing, peppering and subtle volcanic elements. Signed at the lower right, "Fantoni", as well as verso "Fantoni Italy", the plaque is in Very Good Condition with a few small chips and nicks to the edges (examples picture 7 and 8). It was made to be hung from a wire which is attached through holes at the top, and my recommendation would be to have it framed so that the frame, rather than the pottery, could support the weight, as it is very heavy. This will definitely be a cornerstone piece to any collection of Italian Modernist Ceramics, and I will ship it for FREE anywhere in the lower 48. Sorry, but I cannot ship this Internationally as I do not feel it can be safely packed to fit within the size limits of International parcels. Thank You
