Museum Quality Ancient Buddhist Sutra Leaf, Tibet, 16th/17th C.
A rare ancient leaf from a Tibetan Buddhist Sutra, attributed to the 16th /17th C. The sutra is hand-written in attractive calligraphy in Sanskrit in metallic silver on a background of dark brown ink. The paper is likely made of mulberry leaves, a practice typically used for sacred Buddhist writings intended for posterity. Different texts appear on the front and back of the leaf. The leaf is from the Art Collection of Philip Casey Durst and was purchased in 2008 from the Sygun Museum of Wales. It comes with the original certificate of authenticity, issued by the Sygun Museum. This attractive ancient sacred writing deserves to be appropriately framed, admired, and read, rather than gathering dust.
Museum Certification of Authenticity included with purchase (see photos)
