Museum Quality "Wheel of Fortune" Indigo Antique Quilt w/Provenance
In A Museum Rare old quilt, of faded hue- Once a bride's most precious treasure Hidden in her dower chest. Loving hands that fashioned you Stitch by stitch, in careful measure Long ago, are now at rest. Your patches tell a wondrous story Of treasured scraps and handicraft; Of love & home, and dreams come true. For honored guests your pattern'd glory, Enfolding them, caressing, soft- And baby hands have lightly touched you. Now you're worth your weight in gold; To lie in state, your only duty, In pleasant ways your lot is cast. And to the world your tale is told. To those who love your patterned beauty You re-create the fragrant past. Carrie A. Hall
I've been selling quilts for a very long time now & I believe this is the nicest two-color quilt I've ever sold. It truly belongs in a museum! This fabulous quilt is in excellent, excellent condition. It has never been laundered, nor does it need to be now. You can still see the pencil trace lines. It was made in the early 1900's by Alice (Shew) Lindamood of East Sparta, Ohio (September 11, 1911 - May 8, 1989). Many mistake this quilt pattern for Hearts and Gizzards but because of the amount of piecing, it is called Wheel of Fortune. It can also be known as Lazy Daisy, Petal Quilt, and Springtime Blossoms. It is so striking with it's dark, dark indigo coloring hand pieced to a near white (light beige) backing. I love when the border of a quilt is as nice as the body, this border reminds me of ice cream cones! The quilting is fabulous with8 spi ~ the stitches are even in size & spacing, nice & tight. It measures 83" x 83".
There's a lot of quilting here. The petals are quilted in a diamond design as is the border. The rest is quilted in narrow 1/2" diagonal lines. There are no rips, tears or holes, absolutely no fraying. I wouldn't even call this a blemish but there are 2 very narrow dotted-like lines in the off-white fabric, which was probably there when putting the quilt together. This beautiful quilt has been stored in cotton since Alice's death in 1989. It truly looks as if it was never used or even displayed.
This quilt has it all.... two colors, a great border, fabulous quilting, an antique quilt that looks brand new and..... a ridiculous low starting offer of only $24.95 with !!!!!! Please take a look at the other quilts I have listed.

About Me: It all started when I was a little girl.... Gramma gave Mom a piece of Flow Blue that had been passed down in our family, then she would pass it on to me. Gramma knitted, crocheted, & quilted but being a "lefty", I could never get the hang of knitting or crocheting so I learned to quilt & applique. My love of quilts & antiques comes honestly I guess. Iama "collectaholic"so I've had to set new rules for myself... "If I buy one more quilt, one has to be sold". There's just not enough room anymore! Several years ago I decided to leave a 25 year career in Human Resources Management & do something for myself... spend more time with family & friends, garden when this Ohio weather allows, & hunt for quilts, vintage clothing & hats, & other antiques.
