Napier Muddler Cocktail Spoon & Mechanical Jigger, Vintage Silverplate Barware For Sale
Vintage Napier Barware
Vintage Napier Barware
This sale includes two pieces of vintage silverplated barware, both signed Napier. The first is a long twist-handle cocktail stirrer with a muddler at the bottom and a large decorative ball at the top. This piece measures 9 7/8” (25.2 cm) long, and is finished with a gold-tone on the ball. The other cocktail stirrer has a spoon at the bottom and a 2 ounce stepped jigger at the top. This jigger is fitted with a mechanical valve at its base that works using gravity to slide the valve closed when the spoon is lifted off of the surface. When the spoon contacts the bottom of a shaker the valve is pushed upward and the liquor pours into the shaker. This piece measures 9 ¼” (23.3 cm) long.
Condition: The muddler spoon is in fair to good condition, with no bends or breaks and a nice shine. The gold-tone on the top ball has a bit of wear on it. We are not sure if the muddler end was originally gold as well, but now it is more silver. The silver finish on the twisted stem and on the muddler spoon has wear, with base metal showing through in spots (see photos). There is some spotting on the spoon, and a few tiny pits as well.
Condition: The mechanical jigger-spoon is in poor condition as the silver layer is very worn. The valve slides smoothly and we tested the device and it works fine. The spoon end is badly worn and pitted and it has some dark discolored spots on it as well. The spoon has a very minor dent on the heel area. The top rim of the stepped jigger is out-of-round and has a couple of small dents on the edge. The inner surface of the jigger has wear and corrosion spots (see photos).
