These 10x12"soft inserts are stand alone level IIIa and milstd fragmentation rated construction. Great for handgun and frag protection in any plate carrier with 10x12" pockets. Andif wornwith your IIIa vest they will stop all IIIa rounds plus 9mmAP, 7.62x25, 5.7x28, .454casull, .50AE and other speciality pistol rounds and provide up to 40% blunt trauma reduction. Besides being light, about16 ounces,these inserts are soft, flexibleand comfortable and just over 5/16" thick. They are made ofsome the best ballistics in the worldmilitary grade kevlarand a proprietary mix of spectrashield and goldflex for better ballistics and less blunt trauma. and are thinner and lighter than standard Kevlar.A mix of materialsgives better protectionthan any single fabric insert. And these are perfectif you use SAPI plates in your plate carrier (nearly all SAPI plateshave to have IIIa armor behind them to provide their rated protection. General information on ballistics: NIJ testing is done on size small through large vest panels. Anything smaller is not certified. Our smaller items are made of the exact same construction as our hybrid plus vest panels and are listed as IIIa construction. Our hybrid plus IIIa vest panel has been has been tested by H.P. White and found to pass the NIJ IIIa Standard-0101.06 ballistic test for .44 magnum.
