NEW ORLEANS CSO Silver On Copper Large/Heavy Serving Tray, 30\" long X 18\" wide:
$50.00

From a New Orleans estate that was from the 1800s is this wonderful very large, very heavy, silver over copper marked CSO under a crown. The tray provides every expensive element of the 1880 era with large high feet that sill sit the tray flat with zero wobble, reticulated rim every other slot having hand work to represent a leaf, large hole handles for a man to serve the heavy foods/dish ware of that long ago day and corner medallions to set off the rim work which is all hand chased. Amazing example of the best workmanship done in the English tradition of heavy sterling overlay upon copper, both expensive metals then and now. We will have more on who made this work of art later.
We will ship this USPS or UPS depending on your location and the cost. This tray weighs in at about 30 pounds and will require a large ship box which does increase the price to get this to you.
We have not polished this work as the trend now is to display these with the patina on the work. IF you did want to shine it up, and certainly it will shine up, there will be copper wear showing and other use marks. This is over 120 years old and was intended for heavy use although this one does not seem to have been used daily as the wear is not consistent with that. This tray may have been used to display a tea service in the mansion and was not used to serve at meals. The size would hold a large tea service!! The heavy tray is 30\" long and just 6\" short of a 3 foot yard stick
