NGC graded, serialized and encapsulated silver denarius of 1st Roman Emperor Augustus, with the 2 young Caesars.
The original heirs of Augustus were his adopted grandsons Gaius and Lucius.He did not get along with his wifeLivia\'s son, Tiberius. This coin was mintedpraising the two young Caesars between 2 BC and 4 AD.Both boys howevermet with tragedy in their teen years, dying about a year apart.There has always beenspeculation that Livia may have had a hand in it, asAugustus was eventually forced to take Tiberius as his heir,and Livia\'s sonwould indeed succeed Augustus becoming Rome\'s second Emperor in 14 AD.
The Reverse shows the two young boys standing with shields and priestly symbolsbetween them.CAESARES in exergue. A unique reminder of what paths theRoman Empire might have taken if Augustus\'original dream had come to fruition
