Antique South Indian Yali Dagger
Overall length:9.5in (240mm)Blade length:5.25in (132mm)Reference:10336
An interesting, late 18th, or early 19th Century South Indian ‘Yali’ dagger.
A heavy cast brass hilt in the form of the head of a mythological lion – Yali. The knuckle guard and blade straps have nice bulbous pommels - an unusual and attractive feature. The blade is much better than is typically found on these types of daggers, with nice fullering, and an 'eyebrow' marking on one side. Signs that this maybe crystalline Wootz. A swollen tip for armour piercing.
An interesting dagger of small proportions, but of a substantial weight, certainly made for real use.$30 Royal Mail shipping to USA; or $35 for UPS/Fed-Ex
