Napoleonic British Light Infantry / Grenadier Flank Officer's Sabre / Sword For Sale
Bought locally here in Portugal, this is almost certainly, has to be, a Napoleonic wars battle piece (The British, Portuguese and eventually the Spanish fought Napoleon's French army here during the so called "Peninsular War"
It is a British light infantry or grenadiers flank officer's sabre / sword; they much preferred the curved slashing sword this is for close combat condition. I was told that a flank officer's sword greatly increases the chance it was used in combat (over a regular infantry officer's sword). I was also told, which I ado not necessarily believe but will say it anyway, that the tip of this sword came off in the leg of a French soldier; yes well, I do not believe it either, but who knows?! Anyway, it has to have been present during the war.
The blade is now 26 inches; I suspect originally it was another two inches longer. Blade is plain. No movement. The guard is in good shape. The rayskin grip has a few worm holes and wear; the wiring is complete. The metal sheath has some pitting, etc. The blade goes into and comes out of the sheath really well, nice and firm but not too firm.
I think it is a nice piece, makes a great display item and worth a few tales! But you decide what it is worth; 99 cent opening offer with !
Item will be sent registered delivery. I will not ship to countries which do not allow these things and / or I will not send to any countries which says I can not. Please make sure it is OK with and legal for you to import before offerding. The item is in Portugal so no Customs procedures within the EU to worry about if you are in the EU too.
US / Canada / Australia / New Zealand : $35 Europe : $20
