I bought this ring in the 1970s or 1980s from Ann McMackin, who represented several superb Native American artists and brought pieces to NYC to display and sell. The ring is all hand made and hand tooled and is the best of quality with a lot of silver work that is recognizably David Tune\'s work and his excellent cobblestone inlay work which consists of two great quality turquoise stones, (one a great spiderweb green), two other great quality coral stones, sugalite, and a piece of lapis lazuli that contains a lot of gold colored matrix. The ring contains David Tune\'s hallmark stamps and his full name inside the tapered band and is hand filed. The ring size is 7-1/2 and the weight is 18.4 grams. The length is about 1-5/8\"(4.18 cm) and the width at the widest point is 1/2\"(1.27 cm), tapering to 1/8\" (.32 cm) at the tip. He uses heavy duty sterling silver and the best quality stones. The ring is artistic, \"artsy\" as we used to say, and eye-catching, in the spirit of Charles Loloma, but definitely David Tune\'s designs. The silver can use some cleaning but I\'ve left it for you to decide. I think it would look great shined up with just a little of the patina in the lower levels. This is one of the fine Native American smiths with a real sense of drama. This ring is flattering to the hand and fingers, being tapered in design. This ring has had one owner and little wear. It\'s in excellent vintage condition with no problems. David Tune combined the old techniques with his modern sensibilities and this is a rare and unique example of his work. Highly collectible, you\'ll always enjoy it. As for sizing, it can be tapped larger and with cold solder, made smaller.

David Tune is of Creek and Navajo and Hopi descent. He was born in 1955 in Winslow, Arizona, and raised both in Albuquerque, New Mexico and Oklahoma. David became serious about his art when in 1976, he was commissioned to design jewelry for the March of Dimes Poster Child and President Ford\'s senate. David had been creating his art to great acclaim, won countless awards and also taught High School for two years, when in 1987 he was forced to stop work and fight cancer. He was cured by his uncle, a healer, and returned in 1994 to creating beautiful pieces of jewelry. David\'s work is unique and unmistakable, like most excellent artists. He works with both sterling silver and gold, and uses many stones in combination in his inlay pieces. His colorful and innovative inlays are inspired by the aerial views of the earth that he sees when he\'s hot-air ballooning or skydiving. He comments \"My view from up above inspires my inlay - all the pieces of the earth, fitting together just so.\" He holds tight to his spirituality and is quoted as saying \"Every marking on my jewelry has a spiritual meaning. Every piece has its own story.
