Here is an OLD CHURRO WOOL ClassicNavajo CRYSTAL TRADING POST / JB MOORE Floor and/or Utilitarian Rug,from the 1910 (1905-1920) Post Transitional Era. This is a great example of a unique and beautiful looking and Antique Navajo Trading Post Rug, with 9 Repeating Stepped or Interlocking Diamonds, JB Moore "Hooks" (the 24 parallel red designs) and arrows (20 of them), as well as a serrated inner border with a incredible looking gold/brown wool. This old Navajo Textile is made from hand spun, hand carded and/or hand dyed Reservation Churro Sheep Wools! Note the fine looking grey hand spun and carded field, as well as the hand spun and hand carded white and dark brown. The Red is a hand Dyed Wool, most likely an early Aniline or Vegetal Red Dye. There is also what appears to be an Indigo Blue within several diamonds of the rug. This rug is in worn condition please see all pics - the last 4 pics show most of the damage. However - this is such a rare rug it is worth investing in for full restoration!
The size of this textile is (BIG) and approximately 84" X 58" (about 7 by 4.8 Feet), with a Wool Warp of 8 and a Wool Weft of about 32 (a fine and tight weave), this is an expertly and beautifully constructed piece!CONDITION - Wear and Tear from time and use: NO worn/tired wool (actual wool in excellent shape with luster and sheen), Several holes, NO Notable Bleeding of colors (very minor bleed with some of the gold/brown wool),NO notable Fading,NO Bug Damage, NO Notable Stains, and NO old dry/tired/brittle/bad wool! There are several holes, frays, and wear to the edges, please view all pictures for wear/tear.
SELVAGE (see last pic): Side Selvage Cords and End Selvage Cords are just about worn away about 90% gone! The corners are in fair shape, 3/4 ok and one is worn.
As you can see from the pic this is an amazing looking rug, and could display as is - however I am hoping somebody will restore this piece and give it at least another century of life!
A mesmerizing and classic design, the wools and dyes look amazing in the sunlight, the overall composure of the blanket is stunning - and a good investment!
BOTH SIDES photographed in entirety! This rug will look great as a wall hanger, but could also be used as a Floor Rug, and will brighten up any home!
