PLEASE READ END OF THIS LISTING FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. Here is a well designed, handsome looking Large Runner, an authentic and antiqueNavajo Rug,from the KLAGETOH Region of the Reservation!This old and beautiful Navajo Floor Rug is from about 1920 (1915-1930), and made from all hand spun, hand carded and/or hand dyed CHURRO SHEEP wools! The red wool is hand dyed with Aniline (obtained from the Trading Posts of the time), while all the other colors - white, grey, beige and dark brown / black are hand spun and hand carded wools. This rug is in Fair condition, with wear and tear, and in need of repair, however, since this is an Antique Klag, a Runner and a Large Size it is worthy of full restoration.
The size of this textile is approximately 87" X 45", with a Wool Warp of 6-7 and a Wool Weft of about 24, an expertly and beautifully constructed piece!CONDITION: NO worn/tired wool (wool in excellent shape), NO notable stains (a few very minor, light, and small background stains), NO notable Fading,NO Bug Damage, NO old dry/tired/brittle/bad wool, and NO Bleeding of Red! There is crude repair to the rug (see last few pics), a few worn/thin spots with warp slightly exposed, and wear to edges with some wool loss ( please inspeact all pics). SELVAGE: Side Selvage Cords (a fine twist of two, 2-ply brown wool yarns) are about 50% intact/present, and there is minor wool loss on side edges (see pics). The End Selvage Cords are 75% intact/present, a braid of two, 2-ply, brown hand spun/carded wool yarns. The corners are in worn shape (see pic) with loss of corner ties from time/use.
Note the many LAZY LINES and the VARIGATION within the grey wool due to hand spinning/carding of the wool. A mesmerizing design and the wools and dyes look amazing in the sunlight!
