Circular silver medal with Netherlands crown swivel suspension; the face with the insignia of the Order, being a Maltese cross, a laurel wreath between the arms, a circular central medallion bearing a Netherlands lion within a ring inscribed ‘JE MAINTIENDRAI’ (I will maintain); the reverse with the letter ‘W’ (for Wilhelmina) and circumscribed ‘GOD ZY MET ONS’ (God be with us); on original ribbon mounted for wear. The Order was founded on 4 April 1892 to be awarded as both a military and civil order to “those Dutch citizens or foreigners who have made themselves particularly deserving towards Us and the State or towards Society”. The medal ceased to be awarded in 1994 when it was replaced by the Member class of the Order. A good example. Medal has Dutch silver marking in the shape of the sword.
