New England Steamship Company Fall River Line Buffalo China Match Holder Rare:

Here is a wonderful rare Fall River Line collectable. It is a matchbox holder in excellent perfect condition with no chips, cracks or hairlines. It is a large piece measuring a little over 6 inches across the bottom and stands 3 1/2 inches high. The Fall River Line was owned by The New York New Haven and Hartford Railroad so it is a cross over piece also of interest for New Haven Railroad collectors. It was made by Buffalo China and is signed on the bottom. There is a firing dimple on the bottom rim of the piece as well as a small firing dot on the base of the match holder. These can be seen in my last two pictures. Beautiful piece, clean and from a smoke free home.

Fall River Line
From Wikipedia

The Fall River Line was a combination steamboat and railroad connection between New York City and Boston that operated between 1847 and 1937. It consisted of a railroad journey between Boston and Fall River, Massachusetts, where passengers would then board steamboats for the journey through Narragansett Bay and Long Island Sound to the line\'s own Hudson River dock in Manhattan. For many years, it was the preferred route to take for travel between the two major cities. The line was extremely popular, and its steamboats were some of the most advanced and luxurious of their day.
