Hillsboro was founded in 1877 when two prospectors discovered gold on the east side of the Mimbres Mountains along Percha Creek. Since then the Hillsboro area is credited with the most gold recovery in New Mexico. Lode and placer mining has proven profitable, and most of the area is under active claim. The claim has many tailing piles and a couple of deep ancient mine shafts. A nice sized gulch runs below the shafts.

A dirt track runsthru theclaim, a 2 wheel drive with decent ground clearance will easily make it to the southern half of the claim, but the last 100yards will need a 4x4 or ATV. The road was clear at the time the pictures were taken, but I can not guarantee, or give a refund,that the weather will allowit to remain that way.There are manyflat spots to set up camp on the claim.Bedrock is shallow inmany places.Truth orConsequences is about 20 minutes away and Las Cruces is about 75 minutes.Both of these metropolitan areas offer restaurants, lodging, entertainment,and supplies.

Please ask your questions before the sale ends, and understand what a placer mining claim is before offerding. You will be offerding for the mineral rights only, not the land itself. You can camp on it or stay in a wheeled vehicle, but you can not build permanent structures. A mining claim is real property. You can sell it, give it away, use it as loan collateral, or pass it on to your heirs. It is yours as long as you meet the annual filing requirements. Currently, by Sept 1 of each year, you must either pay the BLM $155 per 20ac.or if you have fewer than 10 claims you can file a small miners waiver and pay $10.
