Ngombe Nguluexecutioner beheading Sword from the Congo

The Ngulu sword from the 19thcentury is known as an “executioner’ssword”, for that was its primary use over a large area of the Congo.

Manufactured by the Ngombe tribe, the ngulu was traded to many different tribesincluding the Bangala (Ngala) of theMongopeople.

The sword was used in the gruesomedecapitation\'s described in the Fischer book on African weapons.

This example has etched lines into the blade.

Blade has a surface rust appearance which is common withthese swords, but it is more of a surface scale than pitting.

Sword overall length = 28”, (710mm)

Blade thickness varies from 1/8” thick & taperingthinner toward the tip.

Pommel length = 5”

Grip is in leather & has a slight split.

Overall this sword is in excellent condition.

Likely taken many lives, if only it could talk.
