Nice Circa 1928 Athlete/j. A. Meliodon Bronze Clad Antique Bookends/8.5-in. High For SaleYou are offerding on a pair of circa 1928, bronze-clad antique bookends sculptured by A. J. Meliodon (imprinted on the back side). There is a manufacturer's mark on the side (seen in photos). The base measures 5.5 x 3.5-inches in size and the height is 8.5-inches. One bookend weighs 3 lbs. 10 ounces and the other one weighs just under 4 lbs. See photos for details. (Note: Another member identified these bookends as being Sisyphus, who in Greek mythology was the king of Corinth. Because of his deceitfulness he was compelled to roll a huge boulder up a hill, only to have it roll back down, a feat he was destined to repeat forever.)
These antique bookends are in near mint condition. There is no damage to the surfaces of the bookends such as cracks, chips, dents, etc. The only blemish is two very tiny white specks on one bookend. The felt on the bottom is edge worn with a small edge chip on one bottom. An excellent set!See my store for many more antique bookends in nice condition!.
